Biometric Information

In addition to collecting your Personal Information directly from you, we also hold your Biometric Information that may have been collected by our subscribers/customers/clients through our security system software.

Biometric Information is a type of Personal Information comprising:

  • A photograph of all or any part of a person’s head and shoulders;
  • 3 Dimensional scan including facial features
  • Impressions of the person’s fingerprints;
  • A scan of the person’s irises; and
  • An electronic record of the Personal Information that is capable of being used for biometric matching

The nature of our work in security means our subscribers/customers/clients may collect your Personal Information (including Biometric Information) using our software and the data collected will be held in our servers. We may receive your Personal Information from other individuals, from businesses or third parties acting at your direction.

Use of your Personal Information:

As a general rule, when you supply Personal Information to us, we will only use this information where the use or disclosure is lawful and for the purpose(s) for which it was collected. We collect and use your Personal Information so that we can effectively provide our goods and services to you. We may state a more specific purpose at the point we collect your Personal Information.

We may also use your Personal Information if it is necessary to prevent or lessen a serious threat to public health or public safety if the use of the information is necessary for law enforcement or for the conduct of proceedings before any court or tribunal.

We make every effort to ensure that your Personal Information (including Biometric Information) is kept in accordance with the provisions of the IPPs and the New Zealand Privacy Act, and to protect it from loss, misuse, destruction, interference, unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure.

The security measures include encrypted transfer of data between the software to our server. As no system is ever fully secure or error free, we cannot guarantee that your Personal Information is totally protected, for example, from hackers, interference, or misappropriation. As such, you acknowledge that the security of any transmission of data by electronic means or by post, cannot be guaranteed. We cannot accept anyresponsibility or liability for any interception, loss or unauthorised use of your Personal Information caused by factors outside of our control.

In the event that a data breach has occurred, involving interception, loss, or unauthorised use of your Personal Information, we will report such breach to you as soon as possible.

Our company will retain your Personal Information only for so long as necessary to fulfil the purpose for which it was collected. When assessing retention periods, we will carefully examine whether it is necessary to retain the Personal Information collected/held, and if retention is required, work to retain the Personal Information for the shortest possible period possible.
